Discover Tibet, the rooftop of the world. A sacred land of nomads and endless space where mantras of compassion have been recited for centuries.
We will start and end in Kathmandu, Nepal. On day 14 of our journey, we will reach Mount Kailash, the sacred mountain in far-west Tibet and the epi-center of Tibetan Buddhist cosmology. For the next 3 days, our group will circumambulate/walk around the mountain clockwise, an estimated 52 km total. We walk at a comfortable pace and take breaks whenever it is needed.
Throughout this 20-day journey, we will be staying in the best possible locations, ranging from high-end to more basic guesthouses and lodges with all basic facilities.
During the circumambulation (or Kora) around Mount Kailash we will stay in comfortable tents, and our Nepali team of cooks and helpers will accompany us. It will not be possible to shower for these 2.5 days, but the hot springs at Chiu Gompa and Lake Manesarovar at the end of the Kora will feel all that better!
Albin Hamard will be our guide on this epic pilgrimage of a lifetime. He will be leading sessions on introduction to Buddhist philosophy and meditation practice, according to the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. This is what makes this journey truly immersive. As you discover a whole new outer environment, you will also look within yourself to cultivate the hallmarks of the native tradition of the land; mindfulness, compassion, and wisdom. The lectures and practices are approached from a non-religious, secular, and psychological perspective.
The pilgrimage and all lectures will be guided in English.
This pilgrimage journey is organized by Himalayan Hermitage in partnership with Buddhist Magazine Lion’s Roar and guided by Himalayan Hermitage facilitator Albin Hamard.
